Training with i2i
Our school-centred training means you’ll be in school from day one, learning alongside experienced teachers and developing your practice through real classroom experience.
You’ll have a team around you throughout your training, including experienced mentors, tutors and pastoral support. They’ll provide regular feedback, guidance and encouragement as your practice develops.
You’ll spend four days each week in school, alongside weekly Professional Studies and other training designed to develop your knowledge, skills and classroom practice.
You’ll learn from experienced teachers, educational leaders and subject specialists, while developing the subject knowledge, pedagogy and professional expertise you need to become an effective teacher.
Academic rigour, classroom experience
At i2i, we believe excellent teacher training needs both academic rigour and real classroom experience.
Our training is research-informed, connecting educational theory, current thinking and evidence with what you experience in school. You’ll develop the critical understanding to think carefully about teaching and learning and apply what you learn directly to your classroom practice.
Your programme leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE, awarded by Bath Spa University, giving you both the professional qualification to teach and a postgraduate academic qualification.
This combination means you can develop as a teacher through sustained classroom experience while also gaining the academic knowledge and critical understanding that underpin effective teaching.
You’ll learn not only what works in teaching, but why, developing the professional judgement to make informed decisions about your practice.
Making the transition into teaching
Moving from university into your first professional career is an exciting step, and choosing teaching is a significant decision. You may have questions about what working in a school is really like, whether teaching is right for you and how you’ll move from studying your subject to teaching it.

Spend time in a school – our School Experience Programme gives you the opportunity to observe lessons, experience school life and talk to teachers about their roles.

Find out about funding – explore the fees, bursaries, scholarships and other financial support that may be available to you during teacher training.

Check your subject knowledge – if your degree doesn’t provide all the subject knowledge needed for the subject you want to teach, Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) may be an option.
