Why change career and teach?
According to a survey by Get Into Teaching (Jan 2019) 64% of people would pick a different career path if they could choose again, something where they can make more of a difference and experience a greater sense of purpose.
We asked our current trainees who have changed their career to re-train as a teacher what their “Why?” is and here are some of their answers:
- “to lead and inspire the next generation”
- “to make learning fun”
- “to positively transform the course of someone’s life”
- “to share my passion”
- “to help students realise their true potential and realise they have doors open to them in the future that they may never have realised were open….”
Fear of the unknown or starting from the bottom again are often stumbling blocks that prevent people taking the first steps to a new career. But these blocks are not insurmountable and it is never too late to make a change!
Many people with established careers retrain as teachers – using their life and work experience along with their subject passion to inspire young people and make an impact every day.
Why i2i?
Here at the i2i Teaching Partnership you will receive all the training and support you need to make your transition to teaching as easy as possible. Every year at least 50% of our trainees are career changers or returners to work, so we really do understand the unique challenges that you may face, helping you adjust to your new career and supporting you to bring your previous experience into the classroom. We also work with Now Teach - a professional network for career changers that supports experienced people to become teachers.
