According to a recent survey by Get Into Teaching (Jan 2019) 64% of people would pick a different career path if they could choose again, something where they can make more of a difference and experience a greater sense of purpose.

We asked our current trainees who have changed their career to re-train as a teacher what their “Why?” is and here are some of their answers:

“to lead and inspire the next generation”

“to make learning fun”

“every young person deserves someone who believes in them”

“to positively transform the course of someone’s life”

“to share my passion”

“to help students realise their true potential and realise they have doors open to them in the future that they may never have realised were open….”

Fear of the unknown or starting from the bottom again are often stumbling blocks that prevent people taking the first steps to a new career. But these blocks are not insurmountable and it is never too late to make a change!

Many people with established careers retrain as teachers – using their life and work experience along with their subject passion to inspire young people and make an impact every day. Here at the i2i Teaching Partnership you will receive all the training and support you need to make your transition to teaching as easy as possible.

If you are thinking of applying but are unsure where to start then we are here to help. Register for one of our numerous Events, and fill in our Enquiry Form to receive guidance from our team. There is lots of useful information on our website, including how to gain some valuable School Experience and our Subject Knowledge Enhancement Programme should you need to build or refresh your subject knowledge. If you are concerned about the financial implications of training then visit our Fees & Funding page for advice and to see if you are eligible for a generous tax-free bursary or scholarship.

The following case studies are written by some of now qualified or current i2i trainees who have taken the step and changed careers to teaching and we hope these will inspire you to start on your journey to teach and transform lives.
