Richie Emerson

Greensand MAT Director of Staff Development

Richie has over 20 years teaching experience working across two secondary schools. He is a Physical Education teacher who has been Head of Department in a large Sports College and also Head of Science. Richie was the first PE Advanced Skills Teacher in Surrey and worked with schools in improving PE and School sport within the county. He has been an educational consultant and worked with school leaders across the country on school improvement. Richie has had senior leadership experience at two schools. He has been Director of Teaching School for SESTA and Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Teaching and Learning, Staff Development and SCITT/ECF. Richie has recently become Director of Staff Development for Greensand MAT and oversees Teaching & Learning, Staff Development, SCITT and ECF for the Trust. Richie has been involved with Teacher Training for the majority of his career.

Richie became a teacher due to the love of his subject and working with young people. Inspired by his school PE teacher, Richie has never stopped his passion for teaching and this has progressed into training and developing others. Richie is an advocate of using research evidence to underpin classroom practice. He firmly believes that pedagogy spans the educational phases and that collaboration is key to teacher development.

Outside of work Richie enjoys running especially up Box Hill on a hot sunny day, playing Golf and coaching his sons junior football team.
