When we first come into the world we are wrapped in Textiles and vice versa when we depart. What we do with Textiles in between that is down to each individual dependent on style, ethnicity, gender and age which is why I love Textiles so much. The road to creativity is completely endless and anything can be done when you have the drive to create something which was just a thought.our teachers are still learners themselves and can give you current examples

Entry Requirements

Alongside your passion and drive we require the following qualifications:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C/4 and above in English and Maths 
  • A Level in your specialist subject is highly desirable
  • Honours degree 2.2 or above in a relevant subject - we do consider trainees who do not have a degree in Design & Technology if you have evidence of strong subject knowledge, experience in a career relating to Design & Technology or a strong Design & Technology A Level.

The i2i Teaching Partnership is an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provider. We deliver a high-quality School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme for aspiring secondary school teachers across a partnership of 21 schools in Surrey, Hampshire, Middlesex and Berkshire. 

The partnership is led by an ‘outstanding’ school which has a passion for the professional development of all those in the teaching profession; from helping Trainees take their first steps in the classroom, to helping nurture school leaders of the future. 

The programme provides high-quality school based and centre-based training, enabling all Trainees to develop into confident and competent professionals. School based training is provided 4 days a week through a main placement school and a complimentary second placement.  Trainees receive centre-based training every Monday in the form of general Professional Studies and subject specific training. Every Trainee works closely with a subject expert Mentor in their placement schools.  Expert Quality Assurance Tutors work closely with all stakeholders involved in the training of the Trainee to ensure training is coherent and highly relevant to the needs of Trainees.

The Partnership is committed to the principle of ‘continuous reflective practice’; it underpins everything that we do.  The most effective teachers are those who are able to reflect, evaluate and develop their own practice; they seek advice, draw on expertise, are willing to experiment and are not afraid of making mistakes. The children in our schools are not stagnant or stationary; they deserve teachers who are willing to stay abreast of the latest training in order to deliver the high-quality education which every child deserves. Our programme aims to start teachers on this lifelong journey and equip them with the skills, knowledge and resilience needed to become the best teachers they can possibly be.

We are proud to say that 100% of our 2017-18 trainees passed with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with 93% graded as either good or high (outstanding).

How The i2i Training Programme Works

Training takes place one day per week at Weydon School, Farnham, Surrey. Training is divided into Professional Studies and Subject Studies. Professional Studies focuses on more general aspects of teaching such as behaviour management, feedback, mastery and differentiation whereas Subject Studies considers these issues in the context of Design & Technology and support your learning to teach the complexities of the Design & Technology curriculum.

For the remaining four days of the week, you will be based in your host school. Here you will begin the term by observing teachers teach a range of classes that you may eventually be teaching yourself. You will have opportunities to teach small groups within classes, take small episodes within lessons and gradually build towards taking whole lessons and then a series of lessons. By Christmas of the first term you will be teaching around 60% of a Newly Qualified Teacher's timetable. Throughout this time, you will have mentor within your host school. Your mentor will support and coach you, helping you improve and gain confidence. Each week, you will return to Weydon for the next phase of training and for an opportunity to reflect on progress.
