What Our Trainees Say About Us
PE Trainee 2018-19
"I was made to feel like part of the team from the minute I stepped foot into Weydon, and not just a trainee. The support from everyone involved in the programme is incredible."
After completing my degree at the University of Brighton I knew I wanted to work in sport but after a few years working in Sports Marketing I realised the corporate world wasn’t for me and I was ready to embark on my journey to becoming a PE teacher.
I always knew I wanted to work with young people but wasn’t 100% sure I wanted to be a PE teacher when I first left university. Over a few months I researched the different routes into teaching. I went to a number of different information seminars in both universities and schools, but it wasn’t until I came across the i2i partnership that I knew I was definitely making the right decision. I knew after the first information morning at Weydon that the SCITT route was perfect for me. It has a great mix between teaching experience and research based learning and from then on I knew that the i2i partnership would provide me with the best possible training.
The experience days at Weydon School really highlighted and confirmed my decision to apply to the i2i partnership. I really got to immerse myself in the school life and really felt what it would be like to be a PE teacher. This was the most important part of the process to becoming a teacher; I would really encourage anyone thinking about becoming a teacher to experience as many days in differing schools as they can, this will really give them a feel for what it’s like.
When it came to apply and starting the i2i partnership I had a stumbling block of a ticket around the world for a year. The i2i partnership was so accommodating to these challenges and worked so hard to help me apply, defer and eventually start on the course the following year.
We are only 3 months into the course and I am loving every single second. Every day is completely different and the course has provided me with so many exciting opportunities. I was made to feel like part of the team from the minute I stepped foot into Weydon, and not just a trainee. The support from everyone involved in the programme is incredible, I feel so lucky to be completing my teacher training on the SCITT course and I am so excited for my career as a teacher to begin.
