Meet the Team

Sarah Larsen

Geography Subject Tutor

Sarah has been teaching for over twenty years, and currently teaches Geography at Reigate School, one of the two Hub Schools within i2i Partnership.  Sarah gained her PGCE at the University of Swansea having completed a BA (Hons) degree in Human Geography from the University of Portsmouth. Sarah is passionate about her subject, and is passionate about developing her classroom practice. She feels honoured to have been entrusted with the role of Subject Tutor for Geography which has enabled her to pass on her experience in each of these fields to the next generation of Geography teachers.

In addition to her paid work, Sarah has also contributed to a number of educational books, including the Craft of Assessment by Michael Chiles and Powerful Geography by Mark Enser. She also speaks at educational events from time to time including ResearchED Surrey. Her role as a mother to two teenage girls also gives her an insight into what it is like to go through the current secondary school system from a student’s perspective.

One important aspect of the job of Geography teacher that Sarah aims to instil in our Trainees is to have the attitude that they will never be the ‘finished article’ as teachers. There is always more to learn, both through our own action research in the classroom and through the assimilation of ongoing educational research which allows teachers to hone their skills. For Sarah, this is what makes being a Geography teacher a job that she has loved for many years, and which is a mindset that she hopes to pass on to the next generation of Geography teachers.
