"I can whole-heartedly recommend the i2i training programme.  I have developed and grown more in this year than I have in any other year of my life"

Listen to Lena talking about life as an i2i trainee on Brooklands Radio here: Lena Brooklands Radio i2i SCITT Interview

After a long career in industry I wanted to pursue a career in teaching and I decided early on that I wanted to train within a school environment to get as much hands-on experience as possible.  I had friends who had gone through the Teach@Weydon programme and told me it was excellent, so it was an obvious choice for me.  I attended an open day and spent several days at the school observing lessons before I applied to the programme.  The observation days gave me a good insight into the atmosphere and the ethos at the school and it further helped me make the decision.

I am studying for both the QTS and the PGSE through the University of Sussex and it is a fast-paced and challenging programme, but at the same time hugely interesting and rewarding.  As someone who is returning to work with a young family, life can be a juggle.  One piece of advice for someone in my position is to organise good childcare in advance for your year of training. That will pay off.  There are also flexible financing options to help with the costs of the course, plus generous government grants for most subjects.

The i2i programme is extremely professionally run, with focus on academic and pedagogical training one day a week, and practical work within your placement school the other our days.  You will have a dedicated mentor who supports your learning journey and help you along each step of the way.  I am currently studying to become a maths teacher with a business background, so you don’t necessarily need to have a degree subject in your chosen course provided your background is solid enough.  The i2i team are very supportive in organising subject enhancement training to help you develop your skill sets.

I can whole-heartedly recommend the i2 training programme.  I have developed and grown more in this year than I have in any other year of my life.  You have to be prepared to work hard, but the rewards are manifold.   A school feels a bit like a big family, and it is lovely to be part of that and to work with so many wonderful people and students.
